One of the true adventures of Scouting is to strap your camping gear in a canoe and head off down the river. At Grimes Canoe Base Troop 97 did just that. We honed our canoeing skills on Saturday morning traveling 7 miles downriver without gear stopping for lunch at Base Camp. Then we loaded our tents, water, and buckets and headed another 5 miles to our camp on the river. There we set up camp and prepared a great dinner followed by a campfire program where we shared our allegiance to the American Flag. On Sunday we broke down camp and loaded the canoes for another 6 miles downriver. Along the way, we stopped for some refreshing swims to ride the current. Special thanks to SPL Max Breeden and our Crew leaders for guiding us on our canoeing adventure.
