What a great time we had at our annual family campout! To start out the 3-day trip, we arrived at Camp Sumatanga on Friday, August 5th. The Scouts set up their tents, and their family members got situated into the lodge, set up their own tents, or parked their RVs. Later that night after we had dinner, we held Troop 97’s very own Mario Cart Tournament. The next day we got up, had breakfast, and got ready for the active day ahead. Throughout this VERY hot day there were many activities including: the giant swing, alpine tower, the wampoline, canoeing and the low ropes course. Did you get to see Mr. Lloyd on the giant swing? It was great!!
Sadly, the climbing and rappelling event didn’t make it …whatever! The day was still so much fun until Mrs. Hannelore almost killed us. How, you ask? Well, we couldn’t stop eating the amazing food she made. You can’t walk away from her cooking! After dinner, we held our flag ceremony and skits by the fire (did I mention that this was the hottest day of the year). The skits were great, but not as good as the flag ceremony. Then we had “cracker barrel,” which had tons of cool Mexican desserts.
The next day, we had breakfast and held our Scout church service. After that, we congratulated Nathan Jones who earned the “hero” pin for outstanding work and help to the adults. GOOD JOB NATHAN! We then took down and cleaned up camp, and it was time to head home. This was the first time that many of the families got to experience a Scout campout, and we hope they all come back again next year!!
